Insights
A public platform that turns thousands of companies' annual sustainability reports into interactive, year-over-year data visualizations anyone can explore.
2024 values are derived from the year-over-year change Insights reports. 2023 is left out here: submissions dipped that year during the move to a new digital platform, a caveat the live tool explains right next to the chart.
Valuable data, hard to see.
Every year, participants in the UN Global Compact report on how they're putting the Ten Principles into practice through the Communication on Progress (CoP). In 2025 that was 16,256 submissions from 157 countries.
That's one of the broadest pictures of corporate sustainability anywhere, but it's only useful if people can explore it: companies comparing themselves to peers, researchers looking for trends, and the public seeing what business is actually doing.

Making a lot of data feel approachable.
Start broad, then let people drill in.
Overview numbers first, then topics, then individual questions, so first-time visitors aren't dropped into a wall of charts.
Sensible defaults.
The sector chart opens on the five largest sectors instead of every sector at once. Everything else is one selection away.
Put context next to the numbers.
Notes explain things that could be misread, like the 2023 dip and the fact that uploaded reports aren't included, right where the chart is.
Ask how it's going, inside the product.
A short in-product rating prompt gives the team a steady read on whether the tool is actually useful.
Product Owner, as part of a team.
As Product Owner for reporting at the UN Global Compact, I helped shape Insights alongside designers, engineers, and colleagues across the organization: defining what it needed to do, prioritizing what shipped, and using AI tools to prototype ideas quickly so we could react to something real before it went into development.
